Economy
Severson is a pragmatic economic populist. Their economic agenda contains policy proposals that include plans to eliminate medical debts, a cap on prescription drug costs, and removing barriers to higher education through publicly funded state universities. Severson will introduce legislation to raise the federal minimum wage, ban hidden fees and late charges from financial institutions, and regulate rent increases.
Social Security
Severson stands for a robust and strengthened social security program and administration. Severson would work to raise or remove the FICA cap, therefore ensuring program solvency, and ensuring that adequate benefits would be paid up to a federally recognized level. Severson understands that seniors and the disabled are not burdens to our society, but should be revered and safe-guarded.
United States Government
Severson supports term limits for Supreme Court justices, as well as the members of Congress. She also would support abolishing the electoral college and moving toward rank-choice voting in elections.
Citizens United
Severson supports the overturning of the Supreme Court’s ruling on Citizens United, and establishing public funding for elections. The United States Government was established to work for and protect its citizens, not to be a lucrative cash cow for elected officials.
Housing
While in Congress, Severson will fight to enforce fair housing laws and will work to pass legislation that will prevent property owners from using services that coordinate rents, thereby increasing housing costs beyond the average American threshold. She supports Senate bill S.2224 - Stop Predatory Investing Act, which proposes to remove tax benefits for Wall Street firms that buy up large numbers of single-family homes. She will work for fair housing laws for all Americans because 26 states have discriminatory bills against LGBTQ living in particular areas
Immigration
As a born and raised Arizonan, Severson advocates for immigration reform that will result in strong border security coupled with an earned pathway to citizenship. Severson was a vocal supporter of the bipartisan bill H.R.2 - Secure the Border Act, which would have funded additional border agents and closed the border if too crowded. The immigration system is broken and needs to be fixed, and Severson will take up the mantle to fight for the rights of all people, regardless of their immigration status, and will ensure laws about asylum seekers are enforced.
Healthcare
Severson would work to strengthen coverage under the Affordable Care Act, including setting caps on out-of-pocket prescription drug prices. Moreover, Severson supports a single-payer healthcare system.
Civil Rights
Severson would reintroduce the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. She supports demilitarizing police departments, and would support legislation to restore the public’s trust in police through progressive training.
Climate Change and Energy
Severson is a staunch advocate for environmental justice to address the impact of climate change. The Severson campaign does not support a ban on fracking, but will work toward renewable energy infrastructure to create a better future for generations to come.
Indigenous Community
Indigenous peoples' land rights and sovereignty are often threatened by government policies and private companies that seek to exploit resources. Severson will work with the indigenous community toward federal conservation of the land, with the goal of protecting their culture, environment, and sovereignty.
Social Services
Severson supports making child care and elder care more affordable and enacting paid family leave. Severson has also expressed support for student debt relief, and working toward publicly funded higher education.
Abortion
Severson supports national protections for reproductive healthcare and abortion, which were reversed after Roe v. Wade (1973) was overturned by the Supreme Court with Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization (2022). While in Congress, she will introduce legislation to protect the bodily autonomy and privacy of all Americans.
2SLGBTQIA+ Rights
Severson denounces all legislative attacks on transgender rights in states across the country. There are an estimated 1.6 million transgender and non-binary people living in the United States. As one of the smallest, most marginalized groups in the country, they deserve equitable human rights protection. This will also be included in the legislation Severson plans to introduce protecting bodily autonomy and privacy.
Cannabis
Severson supports removing Cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act.
Gun Control
Severson supports a federal regulation that includes red flag laws, universal background checks, and prohibition of the sale of certain assault weapons to civilians.
